"Dog breeders, and especially the American Kennel Club, whose objective is to “advance the study, breeding, exhibiting, running and maintenance of purebred dogs,” are no fans of the Humane Society. One flashpoint in particular: a 13-page report the Humane Society released in July 2012 that accused the AKC of blocking laws that would crack down on “puppy mills.””
I just don’t even know what to say in regards to this headline. I can’t help but to feel a tinge of “publish their identity and hunt this motherfucker down!” I then read the comments and want to hunt all the commenters down. The lack of alarm for someone doing this is worse than the person doing it!
Dumping lives isn’t a “no big deal” issue when kill shelters take in hundreds of pets a month, kill 90%, and home the other 10% - or less. We are talking about living, breathing, feeling, aware beings and people want to make jokes…
Fix this, “it’s fine to abuse animals” cultural attitude.
Comments on this story should range from upset people to discussions on how Marin County should make this kind of contribution to shelters illegal and punishable.
It’s true, Marin should be working harder on educating their clearly ignorant population on better treatment of animals. I would guess they’re a kill county - judging from the level of soullessness from this one individual. They should be working towards the Charleston County No Kill ideal, making animals for sale in pet stores illegal, making the majority of breeders/mills illegal, and enforcing it all…
All I see from this story is over 100 beings who comprehend sorrow, fear and suffering continuously being dropped off and left for death by this ONE horrible asshole. What’s so hard about understanding that, ffs?
Animal Advocate Manhandled in Effort to Save Dogs at San Bernardino Kill Shelter
I am copying this story to my site on behalf of all the animals living in the slaughterhouse of San Bernardino Animal Control Shelter AND on behalf of two very very brave women who stick their necks out for these animals.
Maria Sanchez is a FIERCE advocate for the dogs of SBACC where they are constantly mistreated by staff. Together she and animal rights journalist, Sharon Gilbert, are shining light in one of the darkest place in the United States for animal rights.
I am specifically going to copy Gilbert’s stories over because she posts them to the Examiner.com - which has been banned from a lot of sites for schilling and spamming link share sites. Their site also is filled with shit spyware that will infest your computer and crash the crap out of your browser….
Maria Sanchez, an animal advocate who networks dogs impounded at the San Bernardino City Shelter, found herself on the wrong end of yet another confrontation with San Bernardino Police Sergeant Adam Affrunti. The shelter comes under the control of the city’s police department, and Affrunti is responsible for supervising its day-to-day operations.
Sanchez was at the shelter this past Saturday taking photos and videos of the dogs to post to her Facebook page and YouTubechannel when she met a new foster mom who was hoping to pull two dogs, Prince and Jesse. The foster mom drove from Los Angeles to pick up the dogs.
The city would not release the dogs to the foster so she tried to find an “approved” rescue to pull. The shelter closes at 5:00 p.m. and staff will not release animals after 4:30 p.m. No rescue could be found by 4:30 so Sanchez suggested the foster speak with Affrunti to request an extension for the dogs.
Sanchez escorted the foster to the office to speak with Affrunti before 5 p.m. He said he would be right up to speak to them. About 10 minutes later he arrived in the lobby. Affrunti refused to note the request on the kennel records but said he “would make a mental note to keep them safe until Tuesday.” The shelter is closed Sundays and Mondays.
At this point, Affrunti noticed it was past 5:00 pm. and said that he would not discuss the matter further. He asked Sanchez to leave.
Sanchez attempted to explain to Affrunti that she was trying to help the foster with the process. He told Sanchez she could make an appointment to speak with him the following week. At that point she turned on her video camera to document that he said he would make a mental note not to kill the two dogs.
“He grabbed my belongings and my forearm and pushed me out the lobby door. When I told him I was walking out and asked him to let go of me, he did. But then when I told him he didn’t need to escort me out, he grabbed my arm again and pushed me out the front gate,” said Sanchez.
Sanchez weighs less than 100 pounds. As seen in the video above, Affrunti is twice her size. Please note the video contains harsh language.
“There was no reason for Sergeant Muscles to put his hands on me. He was upset because I was documenting the fact that he said he was going to make a ‘mental note’ not to kill Prince and Jesse.
"In the video, I do spew out some choice words … but I was very upset that this monster had his hands on me again. I plan on filing a complaint with the city, human resources, any and all avenues that are available to file a complaint with,” Sanchez continued.
“My only concern now is that Prince and Jesse are still alive on Tuesday, July 1. They have a very serious foster offer who is willing to foster them both after seeing how bonded they are. It would be two senseless deaths if they were killed so closed to escaping this hell hole,” concluded Sanchez.
Unfortunately, after two weeks in the San Bernardino Shelter, both dogs contracted an illness and were not treated. The good news is they found their freedom today thanks to BFF Pet Rescue. Due to the efforts of many, they should make a full recovery and find their forever home as a bonded pair.”
West Virginia Company Under Suspicion of Torturing Ferils
[ PAGE CREATOR ]
A REQUEST FOR HELP … Ferguson Tire next to downtown Weirton Krogers are permitting their employees to torture and kill the stray cats and kittens that live behind Krogers. Yesterday a employee drove over a mother cat who gave birth to 5 kittens a week and a half ago. We are looking for someone who may have a cat that is still feeding its young to foster/feed these kittens till they can eat on their own. This has been passed on to me by a group of ladies who feed and water these cats daily at their expense. We are only looking for a foster mom till they can eat on their own. PLEASE PASS THIS ON. Thank you — with Rick Freshwater.
All other cats that were due out yesterday, or overdue (no more than 1-2 days) were murdered in yesterday’s blood bath- 21 of them.
We are heartsick, and tired.
We are out of foster space, and cannot pull anymore, and no new fosters have signed up.
Pledging on the cats has dwindled to almost nothing, so other rescues that might have foster space are not willing to take them without some financial backing- cats from SBC are notorious for coming out of the killing machine with severe illness. Most recover, but the vet expenses can be crippling. Let’s face it, if every cat on this page had $1000 in pledges we’d have rescues lined up to take them.
We cannot carry on our shelter-neuter-release program without sponsorships for spay/neuter of the cats.
Adopt, foster, pledge, or share. These are the 4 things that save cats.
Tampa’s Kill Shelter has gone insane. They really don’t want to run a No Kill, at all. They’re doing everything they can TO kill.
Last year they began limiting rescues and adopters on how many pets they can have. I think maybe for adopters this makes sense but for animal rescues - I read they’ve cut the limit to only 2 pets. I don’t know if this is annually, per month, or per visit but it makes saving animals very difficult, no matter what the stipulations are. The most recent asinine policy they’ve instated is the lack of info rule. Rescues are now no longer allowed to know information on intake, adoptions, or killings. The information is on lock down making moving pets out of this demon pet prison that much more difficult.
There’s some deep issues running in Tampa’s kill shelters but I think it’s only a symptom to a greater issue in that city. The politics in that city are very anti. I know personally, as I have family there. The run for GMO free is heavily extinguished. The run for organics and farmer’s markets is, pretty much - “shut it down.” I wouldn’t be shocked if education there isn’t totally privatized. The utilities definitely run on a gamut of providing tainted water for high costs. And, clearly, they have hearts of stone for animal welfare.
The whole region needs some very serious activist targeting. Nepotism is rampant there too. Every year I go I see something related to someone’s son in some department they didn’t earn. The leaders need some very serious vetting and shaming. But the most import issue are the animals. How the hell you could set up a blood thirsty kill program on the helpless lives of animals is unconscionable. Tampa needs a serious spanking and the animals need to be remembered and fought for…
The emergency crews who responded to the scene of a house fire in Muskegon, Michigan last Sunday are all well-trained at saving lives — though when they learned that a 6-foot-long pet python was still trapped inside, most werenât too eager to brave the blaze to rescue it.But when firefighter Scott …
The Los Angeles Shriners announced this week that they won’t use performing animals in this year’s circus in the city — the first time in 88 years that the organization will do so. The move has been praised by animal rights advocates, especially the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), accordi…
