Tampa’s Kill Shelter has gone insane. They really don’t want to run a No Kill, at all. They’re doing everything they can TO kill.
Last year they began limiting rescues and adopters on how many pets they can have. I think maybe for adopters this makes sense but for animal rescues - I read they’ve cut the limit to only 2 pets. I don’t know if this is annually, per month, or per visit but it makes saving animals very difficult, no matter what the stipulations are. The most recent asinine policy they’ve instated is the lack of info rule. Rescues are now no longer allowed to know information on intake, adoptions, or killings. The information is on lock down making moving pets out of this demon pet prison that much more difficult.
There’s some deep issues running in Tampa’s kill shelters but I think it’s only a symptom to a greater issue in that city. The politics in that city are very anti. I know personally, as I have family there. The run for GMO free is heavily extinguished. The run for organics and farmer’s markets is, pretty much - “shut it down.” I wouldn’t be shocked if education there isn’t totally privatized. The utilities definitely run on a gamut of providing tainted water for high costs. And, clearly, they have hearts of stone for animal welfare.
The whole region needs some very serious activist targeting. Nepotism is rampant there too. Every year I go I see something related to someone’s son in some department they didn’t earn. The leaders need some very serious vetting and shaming. But the most import issue are the animals. How the hell you could set up a blood thirsty kill program on the helpless lives of animals is unconscionable. Tampa needs a serious spanking and the animals need to be remembered and fought for…
The emergency crews who responded to the scene of a house fire in Muskegon, Michigan last Sunday are all well-trained at saving lives — though when they learned that a 6-foot-long pet python was still trapped inside, most werenât too eager to brave the blaze to rescue it.But when firefighter Scott …
The Los Angeles Shriners announced this week that they won’t use performing animals in this year’s circus in the city — the first time in 88 years that the organization will do so. The move has been praised by animal rights advocates, especially the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), accordi…
We’ve been desperately looking for an angel to come for Tony so he would not die alone and unloved. He was dropped off at a kill shelter at an old age. Who wants to die alone, after having all your years like that? No one. Not you, certainly not me. I wouldn’t wish it on my grandmother or any animal.
Back before Tumblr was sold to Yahoo - I ran this site with an intent to get fosters homes with the goal to get more lives out of the line of fire in the kill shelters. Some animal hating d-bag by the name of, “Sam,” at Tumblr last year turned this main blog off based off of VAGUE AS FUCK policy stipulations.
I had about 10 blogs and I needed to use them all.
Well - each blog had content, if that was what ever the fuck the vague “be in use” stipulation meant. I have written under each blog - check. I keep up more with SOME blogs more often than others.
I understand what Tumblr means when it says no name squatting, which was not cited to me for the year long closure. I was not name squatting either.
This site is back, though A LOT has changed, including the time.
Hey You! Are You Administering Meds To Your Pet?! READ THIS AND BE WARNED.
So my oldest kitt has hyperthyroidism. She just got her first batch of methimazole … a drug to control her thyroid. The pills are actually a human prescription though so I’ve been advised to quarter them and give her 1 quarter in the morning and in the evening. I like to cut about 10 pills up at a time to negate having to cut every day. They’re small and pretty tricky to quarter out. Well I just quartered a handful an hour ago and have been feeling loopy as all hell ever since. Which made me wonder just how safe is handling this medication?

So I kind of ripped off the “Wellness Pet Food” blog … but I didn’t want to link directly because I’m not 100% behind the quality of their product.
———————————————————————— How to Clean (and prevent) Icy Paws ————————————————————————
Has this ever happened to you? Your dogs are happily romping in the snow–but on the way home, they begin to limp.
What happened? If you were near sidewalks or driveways, they may have stepped on salt or ice melting chemicals, which are irritating to sensitive paw pads. It’s also possible they have ice crystals lodged within their paw.
The solution? Wash your dog’s paws!
If your dog won’t let you clean out his paw, then you’ll have to settle for soaking them.
You could put him in the bathtub and fill it up with enough warm water to cover his feet.
You could also keep an old pan by the door (or a cookie sheet with raised edges on the sides), fill it with warm water and have your dog step in it when he comes in.
These methods will help melt ice crystals and clean off rock salt used to melt ice. Rock salt can dry out your pet’s paw pads.
An alternative to salt and chemical ice melters is sand or gravel. They won’t melt the ice but will give you some traction and won’t irritate sensitive paw pads.
Best way to prevent salty paws altogether? Use booties or a wax like Musher’s Secret.
Is what we are. We tried! And there will be further endeavors in the future. It’s all dependent on the size of the house, the number of rooms, and number of kitts. We currently have no rooms… as it is a loft we live in. I mean, the only room with a door is the bathroom so having a house of two people - one allergic and one essentially broke (me), two kitts - one perpetually crabby and one a dumb handful - would make adding another to quarantine where everyone in the house effectively poops, a logistic nightmare. >^0_o^<
So this story is bittersweet. I had a contact with a Siamese rescue group I was gearing up to work with, among others, when this white trash neighbor (big surprise) knocked on my door with our new housemate, Buggy darling, in hand. Honey Boo Boo’s mom was threatening to take Buggy kitty in to the pound if we didn’t take her. There wasn’t much option so I made the large drink of water give me as much cash as she could for the inevitable vet visit and scolded her about animal responsibility and the small chance Bug would’ve had to live - had she been taken to the L.A. county pound. And that was it. She was on my hands. And I tried a bit to get her adopted out but then there was a month of road tripping the sig other needed us to do - really annoying, and so that time passed and opportunities were missed so she stuck around longer.
There’s also a lot smaller of a network in L.A. for independent fosters, meaning - no Animal Network or ASPCA network, ect … of adoption events to be invited too. Absolutely horrid. L.A. should be ashamed. I digress …
The final straw was my sig other couldn’t separate from Buggy… and the rest is history. A failed foster is not a bad thing. It just meant this Kitty Pants project became more of … or less of a project.
It’s been a time to retool. I suppose this site can be for useful L.A. and beyond info on what to do with the many sad and homeless faces we all run into out in this crazy cruel world. I know the billions of sad stories can burn a person out too so I can pepper in humor. Maybe I can make some time to tool this thing!
Regardless, this isn’t an ending. It’s a beginning, folks. It’s time to focus on the humanity of Trap - Neuter/Spay - Release, campaigns against mills and pet shops, campaigns for adoption, and the re-education of personal responsibility and accountability to all the creatures that are here on the earth with us.
As for this household, Buggy is a fabulous addition to the family. It took some time to train the trailer behavior she was raised with, out of her but she is a brilliant young girl and we love her so darned much! I personally need to find the upper hand in this terrible job market but with a little help of Buggy searching the “Wanteds” for me … I think everything should work out juuuust fine. ;)
We have basically been wiped out by the veterinary costs of the 42 cats from Smyrna, Georgia that we rescued in January. We have spent much time, effort, and money getting these cats healthy again and adoptable. We desperately need your help to survive as an…

Look at this little tiger girl! JENNY is a super sweet, young girl who is friendly and tolerates all handling which is incredible given what she has been through. Her notes say that she was bleeding and had possibly given birth. They went on to say that a small organ, placenta-like was removed from her carrier!!!! You would think that the vets at the ACC would feel the need to look into that more closely, but no apparently finding a “small organ”in a carrier is no big deal. This poor girl does not belong on a euth table, she belongs snuggling in someone’s lap. Please save JENNY!
Poor FUZZY doesn’t know what a LANDLORD is, but he knows that is the reason that his owner gave when dumping him to die at the ACC. This handsome boy spent his whole life with this owner, they even gave his birth date on his notes. Can you imagine how terrified he is? He has lost everything that he has ever known and is now destined to die all alone and scared. It seems that things couldn’t get worse than that, but they are. The ACC has rated him New Hope only. Please start contacting rescues now to get this wonderful, young cat safe tonight!
Beautiful girl MILLIE is a spayed black tiger mix who is terrified beyond belief at finding herself stuck in a small, cold cage at the ACC. Only 4 years old, she was listed as a stray…Really? At 7 1/2 pounds, she looks much too healthy to be a stray…AND she came in with a collar on her neck! This lovely girl got an unfair New Hope Only rating simply because she hissed when a total stranger stuck a hand into her cage to stroke her fur. If I were in her position, I’d act defensively too! Please look BEYOND her fear & into her heart to see the wonderful kitty hiding inside, just waiting for someone to give her the happily-ever-after ending she needs. Once she’s been rescued & feels safe & secure, Millie will gentle down beautifully & transform into the wonderful cat she was always meant to be. YOU can be the person who makes the difference between LIFE & DEATH for Millie…please share, foster, pledge or adopt! Start contacting rescue groups NOW to get this poor misunderstood, misjudged girl into the loving forever home she deserves!
Poor GREG is just a baby. This four month old baby GIRL was thrown into a wire cage and found herself at the terrifying ACC. Any cat would be scared, but a little baby without her mom must overwhelmed with fear. In spite of this fear, she does allow handling, but doesn’t quite trust people yet ( and who can blame her?) The ACC gave her 3 days to find a home. We all know that this wonderful KITTEN can and should get a home. Who wouldn’t love to spend their days and nights cuddled up with her? GREG cannot lose her life tomorrow…
SILVER’s owner abandoned him to die at the shelter. They couldn’t even be bothered to surrender him properly. Look at how scared he is , cowering in a little gray ball at the back of his cage. This poor boy is simply terrified. As well he should be! 3 days ago he lost everything that he ever knew and loved. Now because he doesn’t want a hand reaching into his steel cell to bother him, the ACC rated him NH only. Please start contacting rescues now to save this gray beauty. No cat deserves to be treated this way.
Tiny girl CYNTHIA is a diamond in the rough. This lovely little gray & white cat (just 4 pounds!) needs some tender loving care, proper vetting & good nutrition to restore her to her former glory. She’s only 3 years old & has many years of love & devotion to share with the LUCKY person who gets to save her life. Poor Cynthia had the misfortune to catch the dreaded ACC kitty cold, which is easily & inexpensively treatable with a course of kitty antibiotics. Sadly, the heartless ACC would rather kill her than give her the medical care she rightfully needs & deserves. Don’t let them win by killing her…they’ve killed far too many cats already. Choose LIFE, not DEATH, for Cynthia! Start contacting rescues NOW to get wonderful CYNTHIA to safety tonight!
Handsome gray & white tiger boy TINY is just a baby at 5 months old! He thought his whole life still lay ahead of him, but sadly he was dumped at the ACC high-kill shelter, where they plan to end his life tomorrow simply because this poor little guy is SCARED beyond belief. He got the awful New Hope Only rating because he displayed his fear by hissing & shrinking from human contact, staying in the back of his cage. Wouldn’t you do the same, if you were in his paws? Just a kitten, little Tiny can easily overcome his fear & turn into the biggest love bug imaginable once he has been rescued & can feel SAFE & SECURE in a loving home. Help him learn to trust & care for humans again. Kittens can easily be transformed by time, patience & (most important of all)…LOVE. Don’t wait…Show your love for TINY by contacting rescues NOW!

Mandy is a lovely female tiger mix who is in dire of your help. Through no fault of her own she was trapped and taken to the worst place on earth. Her life now hangs in the balance and the choice is up to you whether to save her or not. She has no one at the shelter who cares about her, and all they want to do is end her life. Mandy is scared and her fear is why the shelter labeled her New Hope rescue only. Once Mandy is out of this chaotic environment and placed into a calm setting her true colors will shine through. All she needs is someone to believe in her and give her a chance to prove herself. If you can foster or adopt Mandy please start emailing our rescues IMMEDIATELY. She only has tonight!! There is no greater gift than saving a life. It is a choice you will never regret.♥
How in the world can you look at LittleTommy’s picture and not want to come to his rescue. He looks scared and confused. Tommy was surrendered to the shelter on 3/1 and the reason was “other”??? He’s lived with other cats and loves play. When Little Tommy first arrived at the shelter he was friendly and allowed all handling, but as time went on he then realized he was not going back home and became frightened and defensive. He is a wonderful boy inside and out and his behavior is being quite misunderstood. This handsome orange tiger mix is wondering what he did wrong to deserve this treatment. Can anyone help mend his broken heart??? Can you help make his world right again and make him a happy kitty??? If you can provide Little Tommy with a temporary or forever home, please start emailing our rescues IMMEDIATELY. He only has tonight!!There is no greater gift than saving a life. It is a choice you will never regret.♥
Brooklyn is a beautiful black and white tuxedo kitty who was surrendered for “cost/allergies”. At only a year old, her life is about to end without your help. No cat should ever end up in this horrible place. Brooklyn has only been given 4 days to find a new home. Her former owner stated she’s friendly and she loves other cats. Can anyone help this betrayed little girl??? Brooklyn would make a wonderful addition to any family who will give her the chance. She’s frightened being at the shelter and that is why she can only be pulled by a New Hope rescue group. Don’t let the shelter’s BS evaluation hold you back from saving this precious soul. She only has you and without your help she will not live to see another day.? If you can provide Little Brooklyn with a temporary or forever home, please start emailing our rescues IMMEDIATELY. She only has tonight!!There is no greater gift than saving a life. It is a choice you will never regret.♥
Poor Midnight — not only was he betrayed by his human because of “cost”, he also has a wound on his neck. Probably why he is reacting the way he is to the rough handling at the ACC. Midnight is an older gentleman, already neutered, who desperately needs you help. He is so alone and afraid - can you blame him? If you are interested in adopting or fostering Midnight, please contact a rescue right away!
My name is Sammy. Look at my cute face — am I not adorable?? The ACC gave me a bogus write-up saying that I was hissing and striking. But does this picture show any aggression? I am just a confused boy who so much wants to be part of a family, who cares for me and loves me. Is that too much to ask? If you are interested in adopting or fostering Sammy, please contact a rescue right away!
My name is Choncho. I am a stray whose life on the streets has been anything but nice. I need to see a vet so I can get proper medical care, not the minimal “care” they give us at the ACC. I am in pain, but still was a good boy during my exam. Please, help me! Don’t let me die tomorrow because I am not perfect. With a little vet care and some TLC, I know I can be a wonderful companion to you. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Choncho, please contact a rescue right away!
Did you know a “good kill shelter” will take an animal in and give it 5-7 days to get reclaimed or adopted out before they destroy it?
These two kitts have been in LA’s animal shelters for two-weeks. That means they need to GTFO of there like today. They’ve overstayed their welcome which means their time is up and they’re somehow, miraculously running on hope and nothing else.
“Dex- friendly, talkative 3 year old male kitty- this boy has a mind of his own, and he likes to tell you what he thinks! Came in as a stray on 2/27- ULTRA URGENT!”
"Gibson- unusual and striking looking boy! friendly, came in as a stray on 2/23- ULTRA URGENT!
Now is a GOOD TIME to adopt! There’s little time before they end up on the “12-hours till death” kill listy.
NOW is a great time to adopt.
”**PEANUT IS A RETURN** Peanut was adopted and then returned a week later due to “COST”!! Unbelievable! Help this girl find someone DEDICATED TO HER ASAP - she is now an owner surrender and her time is limited!!”
"Binks is a gorgeous senior girl, dumped by her owner in the prime of her life. She is healthy, already spayed and ready to go home! Please, save this girl before they put her on "the list"!"
"Booboo is an owner surrender, brought back for financial reasons. He is not on "the list" yet, but as he is 8 yrs old and an OS, his days are unfortunately numbered. He is a very sweet cat, as noted during one of his exams. Please, make the call and save this great boy before it’s too late!"
"China is a gorgeous bombay betrayed by her person of 9 years because of "family changes". She is very nervous and for this she might end up on the euth list at any time. She needs out now! She is a sweet girl who is just so confused as to what she did wrong to make her human dump her at the ACC."
